These systems have been in use for a long period of time dating to as far back as the 1920s when commercial attempts at scorch gasification were being performed. The fortys saw the application of these multi phase systems to the FCC (fl uid catalytic cracking) systems while the fifties saw an increase in their use to processes such as sulphide roasting, drying and calcining. Similarly the sixtys witnessed the growth of these systems to the commercial production of various monomers such as the production of acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride and oxychlorination processes. (Crowe) In rapid date the seventies also witnessed various improvements in these petro chemical processes with the use of multi phase systems. However, through these entire developments one thing remained common to all processes other than the use of solid gas systems. This commonality was the use of perforated plates to mix up these gas solid systems.
